I Want a Pony in the Afterlife

Lithography, November 2023

This piece references specific joss paper objects people burn for their loved ones who have passed away, which is a Taoist tradition that started off with people burning fake money. I visited a factory in Taichung, Taiwan where they build paper sculptures of things we use in our day-to-day life - i.e. iphones, skin products, mops, shopping baskets, seven-elevens - and explored the ways paper and print could be mixed with sculpture. This piece is a part of a series where I explore this Taoist tradition through my zodiac sign, the horse. As a print maker, I wanted to experiment with traditional print methods and how I could make that three-dimensional.
